El Paso Hot Button
Mickey Reece got grounded in the 7th grade for smoking pot at school. He couldn't do anything but come home, watch Power Rangers and play guitar. Eventually, he learned a few chords and started writing "songs". Christmas came and Mickey got a Karaoke machine. He was then able to record his "songs" with AM radio static and guitar overdubs. Jumpcut ahead 10 years to Mickey at a club in Oklahoma City called The Green Door handing a CD of home recordings to the owner . These songs were much more "refined." And by "refined" I mean the AM radio static was replaced with a cheap drum machine. Eventually, he got his foot in the door of all the local clubs with a two piece Lou Reed-esque outfit called Union Calling. About a year later in 2003 he dumped the other member and started playing shows solo. In his early shows Mickey experimented on audiences with stuffed animals, a sewing machine and lingerie. After establishing a reputation for being "hot shit" in the Oklahoma music scene, drawing anywhere from 150-250 people a show,Mickey decided to take his act to unfamiliar territories and thus began years of touring. EPHB has been appearing at small clubs, hotels, dive bars,DIY spots, art galleries, houses and basements for 5 years now and making little to no money at it.It wasn't until 2007 when his second full length "When I Needed Sympathy" was released on Little Mafia Records, that Mickey started making a little scrill. "Now,it's all about my cash flow! Fuck the fans," he proclaims. El Paso Hot Button has toured with bands like Monotonix,The Chinese Stars,Bob Log 111,The Coathangers,The Pharmacy,Harry Merry,Pleasseasaur, Starlight Mints,Attractive and Popular,Church of the Snake,The Paper Chase etc... and supported bands like Eagles of Death Metal,Shiny Toy Guns,The Black Keys, Deerhoof,John Cale of The Velvet Underground,Kimya Dawson etc... so clearly he's bad to the bone.
